The much-anticipated part 1 of the last book of Harry Potter clocks in with $24 million from midnight screenings, a record for the franchise.
Projection have the weekend tally at anywhere from $125-130 million. It was a huge jump from the $77 million opening for the last two Potter movies, “Order of the Phoenix” and “The Half-Blood Prince“. Currently, “The Goblet of Fire” holds the opening record for the franchise at $102.6 million.
The film was directed by David Yates and produced by J.K. Rowling along with David Heyman and David Barron. The first part was released on November 19 and part two, although has finished filming, is set to be released on July 15, 2011.
