Sheriff Julie Forester (Elisabeth Shue) is a single mother in charge of the waters surrounding Lake Victoria, a seemingly quiet Arizona town annually invaded by throngs of douche bags and whores every Spring Break. Julie puts her seventeen year old son Jake (Steven R. McQueen) in charge of watching his two little siblings so she can skim the waters for, I guess vomit, but this Babysitting Diaries plan goes awry almost immediately. There are three problems. 1) An underwater earthquake has opened up a subterranean portal, releasing swarms of cannibalistic piranhas. 2) Porn producer Jerry O’Connell has enlisted her son as an impromptu location scout for his newest seedy film. 3) Nanny McPhee had a previous engagement, returning, somewhere else.

Let’s kegstand on this earthquake issue first. These particular piranhas were thought to have gone the way of dragons almost two million years ago, but according to frizzy-haired mad scientist Mr. Goodman (Christopher Lloyd), they’ve managed to survive in an underwater lake, cannibalizing each other and waiting for the day they’d once again get to taste human flesh. I’d be inclined to question his credentials, but I feel like I’ve seen this movie before, and I’d end up with DeLorean backfire and singing telegram blood on my face.

The second concern at hand involves a coked-out porn king (Jerry O’Connell). He, along with his assistant (Paul Scheer), have rented a boat to film barely-legal shenanigans for personal profit, but the dude they hired to show ‘em around cancelled at the last minute (not Nanny McPhee) and it seemed Jake Forester would do just as well. They’re obviously not aware of the piranhas yet, but even if they were, men have done a lot more to peep on a lot less. And coke is involved.

This 4th installment picks up where the 3rd Resident Evil left off. The Alice clones (Milla Jovovich) try to kill Albert Wesker (Shawn Roberts), the CEO of the Umbrella Corporation at his base in Japan. The clones are killed in an explosion and Wesker manages to escape in a plane. Wesker injects the original Alice a serum that eliminates her superpowers and turns her human again. The plane crashes and Alice is the only one who emerges from the plane’s wreckage.

Resident Evil: Afterlife

Along the way Alice runs into an old friend of hers (Ali Larter) and they set off for L.A. where they seek a safe haven from the hordes of undead that roam the world. Why they would head for a major city that boasts a huge population and will more than likely be swarming with zombies is a question we don't have the chance to ask. Naturally when they get to L.A. things are not as they hoped and Alice must take on new and deadly monsters while trying to protect her friends.

The Last Exorcism is like the Exorcism of Emily Rose, only with a shakier camera, and more bendiness. I’ll tell you what, the next time the Olympics are on, I’m gonna throw a rosary at the girls gymnastics gold medalist. SHE’S A WITCH!! BURN HER!!

The Last Exorcism is produced by Eli Roth, so there should be no lacking of class and sophistication, and director Daniel Stamm has never done anything I’ve heard of, so two thumbs way up. A butt. How else to you explain all the bending?

The Last Exorcism

The film was written by the team of Andrew Gurland and Huck Botko, whose last film, Mail Order Bride, made just over 62 THOUSAND dollars. Which is pretty good, considering the opening weekend was just over a thousand. I’m just glad a pair of comedic writers were chosen to script a religious horror film.
